IT'S MORE THAN
JUST A NOVEL.
IT'S THE RAW
VOICE OF THE
UNHEARD
It blends the harsh reality of gangs and gun violence with a deeper struggle over identity, love, and belonging.
It's not just a book; it's a cultural movement — one that speaks across racial and social divides.
Acquitted at the Old Bailey, Jordel steps into freedom carrying a trial no court can dismiss.
Mixed-race and fatherless, shaped by crime, ambition and loyalty, he is haunted by a voice that threatens to undo him — even as the streets close in around him.
As celebration curdles into tension and enemies draw near, Jordel struggles to reconcile the fractured halves of his identity. In a world where justice drifts and revenge endures, survival demands sacrifice — of blood, of love, and perhaps of self.
This is the story of one man’s battle between heritage and hope, and the cost of escaping the prison built inside his own mind — before it consumes him.

The Author's Story
The Author’s Story
Being an avid reader created within Jason an ease and intimacy with words. He has always loved books, so it’s no surprise he finds meaning in the process of writing.
He later went on to earn a First-Class Honours degree in English Literature, refining not just his love of language, but his ability to analyse, structure, and communicate complex human experiences through narrative.
His father also had a passion for literature. But as Jason cannot recall ever having a single conversation with him, he never had the chance to thank him for passing on—at least genetically—a love of language and written words.
Jason grew up in vibrant, multicultural Finsbury Park, North London. At the time, he believed there was a 95% chance that any two residents chosen at random would be of completely different races or ethnicities. And while the official language was English, the lively streets were alive with global voices. Growing up in this environment ignited his interest in identity, race, and interracial relationships—central themes explored in A State of Mind.
But alongside its vibrancy, Finsbury Park also carried heartbreak.
Jason’s beloved sixteen-year-old brother, Kingsley Iyasara (affectionately known as Poppy), was shot dead there. The tragedy shattered his family and left Jason devastated. He recalls waking one morning soon after the shooting with tears streaming down his face—grief pressing down even in his sleep. Utterly heartbroken, he struggled to accept the impossible.
Despite this loss—or perhaps because of it—he explores gang culture, violence, and consequence in his novel with both honesty and depth.
Three youths convicted in connection with Kingsley’s murder were themselves shot dead within two years of their release. Jason does not condone violence—but he does not pretend neutrality in the face of personal loss.
A State of Mind is not just a story. It is an exploration of identity, pressure, loyalty, and the internal conflicts that shape who we become.
The novel will be released in 2027 in eBook, audiobook, and print. The exact date will be announced in due course. Join the mailing list to be among the first to know.
